Chistmas Markets
December 2014
We have visited Bratislava many times, but this was our first time to see their Christmas Market
On each trip we took the city tour
since each guide had a unique perspective.
The first stop was the castle overlooking the river and the city

Looking down from this vantage point you can see the "UFO" Bridge and on a clear day Austria and Hungary as well as Slovakia
The medieval gate to the old city
A building which is only 5 feet wide
Narrow alleys
Iconic sculpture
In this church we heard an organ concert

We toured the Bishop's Residence, which was a first for us

Flowers confused by the warm weather were blooming in December
We explored the Christmas Market all afternoon and every vendor understood my Slovak

There were smaller markets tucked away within courtyards

many booths were run by charities

We ate a lot here
I bet this looks pretty at night
We returned to our ship for dinner, but decided to return to the market afterwards. It was only a short walk from old town to the river

Performances of traditional music and dances were a nice surprise

Our last stop was the ice rink where professional hockey stars were giving and exhibition and signing autographs
