We walked along the river path up to the Baroque Weltenburg Monastery, Germany's oldest, founded in the early 7th century by Abbot Eustasius
It also houses the oldest monastery brewery in the world. Here we drank their traditional dark beer.

The magnificent interior was created by two brothers, a sculptor and a painter.
Next we rode the ferry through the beautiful Danube Gorge where the river is deepest and narrowest
This trip provided a panorama of pictureque towns and Jurassic-era limestone cliffs

This formation is "Napoleon's Suitcase"
In 1813-1815 the German tribes banded together to defeat Napoleon
Liberation Hall was built by Bavarian King Ludwig I to honor them.

Each alcove is a memorial to a particular battle victory
Note who is peeking out from behind the shield of Waterloo
The monuments offers a beautiful view of the river and valley below.

In the village of Beilngries we visited local families to experience life in a Bavarian community
