Puerto Chacabuco(2020)
Index
South America
February 2020
It's officially summer but a windy morning is quite chilly

A "tender" (large lifeboat) was required
to reach the tiny port of Chacabuco
"Uniting Patagonia to the World"

There are 2 ships in the harbor
One passenger on the other ship is my friend Phebe from Bellingham, Washington
We live on opposite coasts of the USA
What are the chances of meeting up here?
Traveling to the surrounding countryside, we can see the Andes in the distance
Jagged peaks frame small farms at the base
Rock formations and "ghost trees" provide a historical record of geologic and natural events
We walked the trail of a National Park
This is the Aysen region of Patagonia
The condor has a wingspan of 9 feet

A last look at the glaciers in the distance
A map of the size of that area

Goodbye Phebe!

Her ship is leaving before ours

Maybe we will meet again someday

in another part of the world
