Barrakka Gardens

Main Page

The Upper Barrakka Gardens are situated on the upper tier
of the St Peter and Paul Bastien (Saluting Battery) and overlooks the Grand Harbor

We can see our Grand Harbor Hotel
from this vantage point

One of the white enclosed balconies is ours

The rooftop terrace is visible also

The WWII dockyards across the harbor

Fort St Michael
There have been many repairs and improvements to this landmark since my Dad walked here 75 years ago

I recognized that Dad's photos were taken at
the Barrakka gardens

The stone arches are obvious
but closer examination shows that
the fence of 1944 with its pattern of
Maltese Crosses still stands as well

Because of it's strategic location
in the Mediterranean Sea,
Malta was bombed continuously from 1941 - 1943
by both German and Italian planes

95% of the island suffered bomb damage
including the Barrakka Gardens
They never surrendered
